Development of viticulture and evaluation of the newest grape hybrids in Latvia

Latvia has not been considered a typical grape-growing region until now, but it has a very long history. However, the changing climatic conditions, the increase in average air temperatures in the last decade have contributed to the development of grape growing in Latvia and together with the changes made to Latvian legislation over the last fifteen years, which opened up the opportunity for small wineries to develop. Several breeders and, of course, grape growing enthusiasts have worked in Latvia for the past 60 years, on which the traditions of grape growing and various popular local varieties and hybrids are still based.
